Adhesives

The adhesive material does not set up. Why?

It may have not been properly mixed. Check the ratios of the two-component products to make sure they are mixed at the correct ratio and for the correct amount of time. When using a mixing nozzle, always dispense the first 6” to 10” of material until the color is uniform and there are no streaks.

Or, the typical adhesive material sets up slowly in cool weather. Check the minimum application temperature in the technical data sheet. If the weather is cool, then either enclose the area with heat or give the material additional time to cure. If you are using the epoxies, the set time of epoxies doubles for each 10-15 degree drop below 72 degrees F.

The adhesive material does not have the strength to hold the required bond. Why?

The material may not have been mixed properly at the correct ratios or the weather may be cool and the material has not cured yet. (See answers directly above.)

Or, the surface was not cleaned properly prior to bonding with the adhesive. The surface needs to thoroughly clean of all dust, dirt, grease, oil, curing compounds, etc. Sanding the surface prior to applying the adhesive will also increase the bond. Be sure to remove all dust from the sanding.

The adhesive material sets very fast. Why?

Many of the adhesive materials from Tamarron Technology are designed to set quickly. However hot weather will accelerate the set time of adhesives. As a general rule, the set time of epoxies is cut in half for each 10-15 degree increase above 72 degrees F. If this is an issue, apply the adhesive in the early morning hours or in the shade. Also store the adhesive before use in a cool shaded area, not in the direct sun.

Sealers

What should I do if I need to remove the TAMTECHSeal Natural or Gloss Finish sealers?

The TAMTECHseal can be removed by a hot water blaster (over 200 degrees F, the hotter the better) or with a good paint stripper (follow the instructions on the label for the paint stripper). Or you could do both with a paint stripper followed by the hot water blaster. Be sure to do a test area first to make sure the test area looks good and there is no adverse affect from the cleaning process, like from the paint stripper. Also with the hot water blaster, be careful with the sand in joints and you may have to re-sand the joints.

What should I do if it starts to rain during my sealer application?

Stop applying the sealer immediately. Then wait a full 24 hours after the rain stops or until the surface appears totally dry before completing the application. It should be during good drying conditions, not cool damp weather.

The sealer is tacky and is taking a long time to cure. Why?

Sealers set up slowly in cool weather. Check the minimum application and substrate temperature in the technical data sheet, typically it is 45 degrees F. If the weather is cool, then either enclose the area with heat or give the sealer additional time to cure.

Form Coating

The form coating has not cured yet and is still soft. Why?

The minimum application temperature is typically 50 degrees F. If the weather is cool, then either enclose the area with heat or give the material additional time to cure. If you are using the Tam Tech Form Coating, the set time of epoxies doubles for each 10-15 degree drop below 72 degrees F.

Or, the form coating may not have been properly mixed. Check the ratios of the two component products to make sure they are mixed at the correct ratio. Use accurate measuring containers. Always premix Part A and Part B separately before mixing them together for three minutes with a jiffy mixer.

Why did the form coating not level itself as it usually does?

The coating was near the end of it’s pot life during the application or the material was over worked during application. Always apply the form coating right away after mixing parts A and B together. If necessary sand the surface and reapply another coat.

Why did air bubbles appear in the coating?

High speed mixing will whip air into the coating. Use a low speed variable speed drill (about 600 rpm) for mixing with the jiffy mixer. The coating can then be sanded and another coat applied if necessary.

Or, concrete or wood surfaces can outgas especially in warm weather or in direct sunlight. The coating can then be sanded and another coat applied if necessary.

The form coating did not bond to the form. Why?

The form was not clean prior to the application of the form coating. Remove all concrete residue, dirt, oil, grease, and other loose materials. A light sanding of the forms will also increase bond. Surfaces can be cleaned with a solvent wipe or an application of warm water with a detergent followed by a warm water rinse. Continue cleaning until water will no longer bead up on the forms. Remove all standing water. Then clean with a vacuum or oil-free compressed air. Let dry.

Specialty Products

Speedy Clean did not seem to remove the concrete buildup. Why?

The concrete buildup was not kept continuously wet with the Speedy Clean product for at least 20-30 minutes. And then one needs to wait ten more minutes before attempting to remove the concrete buildup. The concrete buildup can be removed with a 1000 psi power washer. If the concrete buildup is excessive, then a second application may be necessary.
